Iron‐Silicate Chemical Garden Morphology and Silicate Reactivity with Alpha‐Keto Acids

چکیده

Abstract Chemical gardens, which are self‐organizing, abiotic, inorganic precipitates in far‐from‐equilibrium systems, of interest for prebiotic chemistry/origin life research and, under certain reaction can be considered hydrothermal vent analogs. While the presence different additives to chemical including phosphate and amino acids, have been explored, reactivity organic molecules garden systems is not well understood. Here we explored two metabolically important alpha‐keto acids (pyruvic acid glyoxylic acid) ammonia iron‐silicate gardens. was observed case pyruvic acid, found that formed alpha‐hydroxy acids. We attributed silicate exterior solution as opposed solid iron‐containing structure. These results implications chimneys their surrounding environments iron‐ silica‐rich systems.

SOLVENT EFFECTS AND CHEMICAL REACTIVITY Understanding Chemical Reactivity

This chapter reviews the theoretical background for continuum models of solvation, recent advances in their implementation, and illustrative examples of their use. Continuum models are the most efficient way to include condensed-phase effects into quantum mechanical calculations, and this is typically accomplished by the using self-consistent reaction field (SCRF) approach for the electrostatic...

An all-inorganic polyoxometalate-polyoxocation chemical garden.

Herein, we show it is possible to produce wholly inorganic chemical gardens from a cationic polyoxometalate (POM) seed in an anionic POM solution, demonstrating a wholly POM-based chemical garden system that produces architectures over a wide concentration range. Six concentration dependent growth regimes have been discovered and characterized: clouds, membranes, slugs, tubes, jetting and budding.

Tailoring protein nanomechanics with chemical reactivity

The nanomechanical properties of elastomeric proteins determine the elasticity of a variety of tissues. A widespread natural tactic to regulate protein extensibility lies in the presence of covalent disulfide bonds, which significantly enhance protein stiffness. The prevalent in vivo strategy to form disulfide bonds requires the presence of dedicated enzymes. Here we propose an alternative chem...

Interactive chemical reactivity exploration.

Elucidating chemical reactivity in complex molecular assemblies of a few hundred atoms is, despite the remarkable progress in quantum chemistry, still a major challenge. Black-box search methods to find intermediates and transition-state structures might fail in such situations because of the high-dimensionality of the potential energy surface. Here, we propose the concept of interactive chemic...
